  • The floristic richness of the plant landscape of Etna, consisting of plant associations in constant balance with an often difficult and extremely selective environment, on the one hand, and the work of anthropic pressure on the other, which led to the exercise of agriculture from sea level up to altitudes compatible with the cultivation of plants through the construction of terraces supported by the typical dry lava stone walls, have made it possible to enslave even very steep slopes to viticulture and fruit growing. With its considerable differences in altitude, 3,000 m in just 20 km, this territory is overall compatible with all the most representative and important species of Italian fruit growing, allowing the presence of a very wide range of fruit trees, from those of subtropical environments to those with a temperate-cold climate, as well as a range of minor fruit trees, whose productions feed small businesses, especially on local markets. Furthermore, the variety of the offer and the breadth of the ripening calendar, the long history of spread of fruit growing, the presence of the Etna Park and the "tourist" value of the territory make the area of Etna of considerable interest for the agricultural activity.
